LOCAL MART / FARMER PARTNER SYSTEM
Local Mart is a technology and operating network, with its marketplace built inside the Local Mart system, that enables local shops, restaurants, grocery and fresh-market sellers, agricultural and livestock providers, service professionals, manpower providers, room and property rental providers, hotels, homestays and other lodging providers, cab, driver and vehicle-rental providers, and delivery partners to serve customers within their communities. Local Mart directly manages the complete vegetable supply chain—from sourcing and pickup through quality handling, inventory and retail to delivery—while other products and services are fulfilled through verified local partners. This page explains the directly managed farmer and vegetable-supply component.
The farmer's problem is not always production. Sometimes the real problem begins after harvest.
01 / SUPPLY-CHAIN TRANSFORMATION
The conventional route below is an example. The exact chain and applicable fees vary by product, market and location.
More handling, travel and information gaps can increase time, deterioration and price spread.
These are operating functions, not additional trading intermediaries. Outcomes depend on actual operations and market conditions.
02 / DIRECT FARM PROCUREMENT
03 / MERAPANI MARKET CONTEXT
Bokakhat subdivision, Assam — 3 June 2026. The Sentinel Assam reported growers leaving tomatoes to rot after failing to obtain viable prices, while the same crop retailed for ₹40–₹50 per kilogram in urban markets. That figure is a reported urban retail price, not a farm-gate price.
Dumma village, Jharkhand — 28 February 2025. GNT reported a local wholesale tomato price of approximately ₹2 per kilogram during bumper production, weak demand and a lack of cold storage. This was a specific regional incident, not a normal nationwide price. Together, the reports illustrate how perishable crops can lose value during oversupply, weak buyer access and storage constraints. Local Mart has not yet demonstrated that it can prevent such losses.
04 / COLD STORAGE AS MARKET INFRASTRUCTURE
Planned cold-chain facilities may help eligible produce during temporary oversupply, delayed transport, short market-access interruptions, flood-related logistics disruption, temporary buyer shortages, or sorting and dispatch delays. Suitability depends on the commodity, temperature, humidity, pre-cooling, storage duration, power reliability and operating procedures; cold storage cannot protect every crop or solve every disaster.
05 / Merapani Farmer-Partner Cold Room Pilot
Morang & Morangs plans to test the farmer-partner and cold-chain concept through a 15 MT cold-room pilot in Merapani, Golaghat district, Assam. The pilot is intended to validate operating assumptions relating to procurement, quality handling, storage, inventory, dispatch and market linkage before any wider expansion.
06 / COLD-CHAIN PROTOTYPE
CONCEPTUAL PROTOTYPE — FINAL ENGINEERING SUBJECT TO TECHNICAL DESIGN, EQUIPMENT SELECTION, SITE CONDITIONS AND APPROVALS.
07 / EMERGENCY CAPABILITY
The long-term network could progressively support alerts, harvest assessment, collection, temporary storage, sorting, market mapping and distribution during floods, road disruption, temporary oversupply or rapid price crashes. This is a developing capability, not unlimited disaster relief.
08 / VALUE ADDITION
Potential areas include sorting, grading, cleaning, standardised packing, labelling, crate-based handling, suitable pre-cooling, short-duration storage, produce aggregation, market-ready packaging, traceability records and buyer-specific preparation.
Basic processing may be assessed where licensed, technically appropriate and commercially validated. No processing facility, licence or production line is claimed as operational.
09 / TRACEABILITY
10 / CONNECTED ECOSYSTEM
Future branches connect surplus produce to value addition, farm data to demand planning, and retail demand to procurement forecasting.
11 / PRIVATE REGISTRATION
Submit crop and harvest information for an initial assessment. Registration does not guarantee procurement, price, storage or transport.
